Life On 5th Avenue
Row 5 in Raccoon Holler Campground is affectionately known as 5th Avenue by its residents. The name was coined about 20 years ago by Carolyn Hylton and others. Since Sharon began camping in The Holler in 2010, she has always enjoyed strolling up and down the avenue, daydreaming about what it would be like to "live" there. Splash even wrote a Story about 5th Avenue back in 2016.
When those stars starting aligning for her back on March 31st and Janet told her, "I have the perfect seasonal site for you", dreams started to come true and now we are both living the life on 5th Avenue!

SITE #86Site #86 sits up on the highest portion of Row 5. Surrounded on three sides by lush rhododendron, it is shady and secluded. Our outdoor living space with its 27' deck, is ideal for visiting with family and friends, stringing lights, having morning coffee, eating meals, setting out a dog pen, drying towels on a wooden rack, cooking, and just plain relaxing. We have a big shed for storing tools, chairs and cushions, and other camping gear. A parking pad for our little yellow golf cart named "GiGi" sits right beside a driveway that will easily fit two cars. Site #86 makes life on 5th Avenue pretty terrific!

5TH AVENUEI am one of the newest kids on 5th Avenue and probably in the whole campground too. I have had lots of neighbors stop by for a visit and Sharon loves the opportunity to tell everyone all about me. She Phoebe, and Gracie go for lots of walks up and down the Avenue to see what they can see. Usually it's something new with each outing.
We haven't met everyone yet, but we get lots of hellos and waves from folks who are passing by. Sharon always makes sure to have her camera with her when she goes out for a stroll. Here are some of her snaphots for you to enjoy. |
AROUND THE HOLLERSharon has been camping here at RHC since 2010 when the T@B caravan heading to Gettysburg, stopped here for an overnight. She has held Blue Ridge Rallies here, camped with The Cousins for several summers in July, attended an ERU and also a Tear Jerker gathering here. It ranks as her favorite place to be in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
With temperatures consistently 15 degrees cooler than at home, roads perfect for walking, outdoor concerts by the lake, a playground & Rec Building, and the friendliest and most helpful staff around, she gives it 5 stars! |
FAMILY FUNOne of the most special things about living in The Holler is having family nearby. Cousin Rob, Trisha, and Jackson also have a seasonal site right next door in #84. It's beyond cool having them right next door!.
They share meals, talk endlessly about camping, snitch ideas from each other, and take road trips together. The Cousins make life in The Holler extra special. Sister Becky joins in the fun on a pretty regular basis too. Toss in Gracie, Phoebe, Sophie, and Jackson and it's a whole bunch of Family Fun every single visit! |
